Hypothesis and Variables (Ryan)

Research Topic: Chemistry of Ice-Cream Making : Lowering the Freezing Point of Water

Hypothesis: Adding different chemicals into water will cause the freezing point to decrease

Variable:

Constant

- Water that was used.
- Place where the experiment is held
- Amount of Chemical added into the solution

Independent
- Chemical that was used

Dependent
- The time taken to find the target during a visual search

Hypothesis of Rainbow Fire Project (Zhiyong)

Rainbow Fire Project

Hypothesis : If I burn different chemicals, they will change into many different colours.

Constant Variable :
Time used to burn
Amount of chemical
Environment

Independent Variable :
The type of chemicals available

Dependent Variable :
Colour produced by the chemicals

Hypothesis and Variables (Cherlyn)

Research Topic: The Chemistry of Hair Highlights

Hypothesis: To investigate how hydrogen-peroxide based hair treatments change the color of human hair.

Variable:

Constant
- Type of human hair
- Location of experiment
-Type of hair highlight

Independent
- Amount of hydrogen-peroxide used

Dependent
- Color of the hair

Hypothesis and Variables (Sean)

Research Topic: The Brains behind "Where's Waldo"

Hypothesis: To investigate if the number of distractors will affect the ability to find a certain target during a visual search.

Variable:

Constant

- The target
- The eyesight of the visual searcher
- The photo

Independent
- Number of distractors in the photo

Dependent
- The time taken to find the target during a visual search

What is a Hypothesis?

A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
